Program Description:

This five-day workshop is designed for anyone who wants to develop their own unique approach to painting cityscapes. Students will paint in oil from photo references (provided by Hsin-Yao or student) each day, exploring atmospheric perspective, limited or full color, and the importance of shapes utilizing a variety of lighting situations such as rainy gray days, strong sunlight, twilight, and night scenes. There will be discussion of simplifying composition, capturing mood, developing structure, expressive style, and understanding edge control in order to create dramatic cityscape paintings. Hsin-Yao will demonstrate each day and then work with students on an individual basis.
